Besides maintaining the nearly 160 years long tradition, the Hungarian State Railways Co. (MÁV) wishes to provide great comfort by its high-standard services.

Our capital, Budapest is in direct rail connection with 12 capital cities of Europe. Besides our inland lines, forty pairs of trains provide traveling opportunity to and from the neighbouring countries.

Passengers traveling with a Eurail Pass may travel without paying excess charge on trains where the payment of excess charge is otherwise compulsory. However, the compulsory seat reservation should be paid.

Our InterCity (IC) trains provide clean, comfortable and fast travel within 3 hours between the capital and thirty big cities. The air-conditioned IC trains are popular among the passengers for business and leisure travels. As a result of this fact, seat reservation is obligatory for these trains.

The InterPici (IP) regional trains provide connection to IC trains on a similar level. The passenger cars of MÁV are mainly non-smoking. Smoking passengers may a 2nd class passenger car designated for this purpose.

The EuroCity trains - connecting the cities of Central- Europe - providing a high-standard of service may be used by international passengers without an excess charge.

On board of EC and IC trains, “hungry travelers” can taste the Hungarian specialties in the dining car. Would you like to save time and gain experience?
