The state-run company RENFE covers a large number of lines which connect all the regions and main cities.
RENFE together with other trains supply a range of high quality, comfort and punctuality. Therefore in the main cities there is a local network which connects small towns. In Madrid, there are nine lines with frequencies less than 5 minutes and the punctuality is 95%. Most of the trains supply additional services such as snack bar and restaurant.
The high speed train AVE Madrid-Cordoba-Sevilla runs over 300 kilometers (186 miles) per hour.
Highspeed trains also serve other destinations such as Malaga, Zaragoza,, Lleida and Huesca High quality trains running over 200 kilometers (124 mph) link:
- Barcelona to Madrid non-stop (Alvia train)
- Barcelona to Valencia and Alacant (Euromed)
- Madrid to Valencia (Alaris)
- Madrid to Alacant, Murcia, Barcelona, Cádiz, Huelva, Pamplona, San Sebastián and Irún/ Hendaye (Altaria)
- Madrid to Toledo Madrid is a central town from where every traveler can easily reach any destination.
For example from Madrid to Valencia or Alacant the journey takes less than 4 hours.
RENFE also supplies Train-Hotel services between several cities like Barcelona to Cordoba, Sevilla and Granada or Madrid to A Coruña and Vigo. Among the large range of trains RENFE emphasize the AVE, Altaria Alaris, Alvia, Euromed and Hotel-train In the local network Spain has at one’s disposal the newest trains in Europe, called “Cercanias” connecting towns such as Segovia or The Escorial Palace. International relations: Hotel trains between Madrid- Lisboa, Madrid-Paris, Barcelona-Paris, Barcelona- Milan and Barcelona-Zurich are high quality night trains. These trains leave in the evening and arrive early in the morning. International daytrains: Barcelona-Montpellier and Cartagena-Montpellier In the most important railway stations an exclusive lounge “Sala Club’’ is offered with hot and cold beverages, snacks, newspapers, magazines etc in a quiet atmosphere. Clients travelling in 1st class- Preferente have the right to access before the departure of the train.
Airports BARAJAS (MADRID) A new subway services the city every 5 minutes. Travel time 20 minutes. A bus service links the airport with some different places in town every 15 minutes. The journey takes approximately 25 minutes (by taxi it takes around 15 minutes).
EL PRAT (BARCELONA) A train links the airport with the station Barcelona Sants every 30 minutes. The journey takes 25 minutes.

Eurail passes are not valid on the following trains:
- Eusko Tren (Bilbao – San Sebastian and others)
- Al Andalus (touristic train)
- Mallorca (different lines)
- FGV Ferrocarrils Generalitat de Valencia
- Metro lines of the spanish cities: Barcelona, Bilbao, Madrid, Sevilla and Valencia
- Feve-touristic trains and Transcantábrico
In general, Eurail passes are also not valid on :
- Car transporting trains
- Chartered trains (Ski, Pilgrimage, etc)
- Private steam trains
