As Sweden is Europe’s third largest country in land area, rail travel is well developed as well as a very comfortable way of traveling.
X2000: Between Sweden’s major cities the tilting high-speed train X2000 takes you from city centre to city centre with extremely high service level and comfortable, large seats offering you plenty of space. (For more details, see chapter “high speed trains”).
DAY TRAINS: Most cities of Sweden are connected with modern, high quality daytime trains with 1st and 2nd class coaches. Some of them have a trolley service or a bistro coach and family cars. In 1st class free coffee and Swedish newspapers are included in the service.
NIGHT TRAINS Night train is a very convenient way of travel in a country of Sweden’s size - more than 1,600 kilometers (990 miles) long - for example to the midnight sun north of the arctic circle. You can choose between your own individual sleeping compartment with toilette, shower, hairdryer, airconditioned and a compartment with two or three beds, in ladies’ and men’s versions.
Certain trains have radio and automatic wake up system. Swedish night trains always carry a great number of sleeping cars, but of course also less expensive couchettes. In the couchettes you have a choice between a mixed compartment with 6 beds or ladies-only.
Night train routes: Stockholm-Malmö, Stockholm - Oslo, Stockholm-Östersund/Storlien + NSB day train connection to Trondheim, Stockholm-Umeå/Luleå/ Kiruna/Narvik, Göteborg-Östersund/Storlien + NSB day train connection to Trondheim, Göteborg-Umeå/ Luleå + Connex day train connection to Narvik. (NSB: Norwegian State Railways)
GO TO THE CINEMA AT 120 KM/H (74 mph)
On some night trains you can enjoy both a meal and a visit to the only cinema coach in the world, in the combined cinema and bistro car. The films are shown on a large screen in a cinema with for up to 32 persons. These services are available on the routes Stockholm-Storlien and Göteborg-Storlien.
RESERVATIONS Reservations must be made for all trains in Sweden. This can, however, be made until the train’s departure. For reservations on night trains, we recommend you to book as early as possible due to the great demand.
ALLERGIES All Swedish trains and stations are non-smoking. In non-smoking areas, animals are not allowed. All bedding material in sleeping compartments is made from synthetic materials. Animals are not allowed in sleeping compartments.
