With the launch of the railjet in December 2008, ÖBB is setting new standards in European rail traffic with a completely newly developed premium product.
One advantage of these modern and comfortable high-speed trains is the shortening of trip lengths due to a maximum speed up to 230 km/h, but new standards will also be set as far as service is concerned. The railjet, with its high-class ambience, offers a total of 408 seats in three different classes.
For the first time, the ÖBB offers three classes – Economy, First and Premium
The Economy (which offers a bistro), First and Premium classes brings even more comfort for passengers thanks to their high-quality equipment and a service concept with a personal touch.
The catering is supplied by top catering company e-Express/Meinl am Graben and will be adapted to the relevant season. In addition, the selection of set meals comprises Austrian delicacies as well as international specialties. A particularly great importance is attached to a well-balanced cuisine with fresh products. Cold and hot snacks, drinks as well as hot towels and newspapers/magazines are included in the passenger fare for Premium passengers. Welcome drinks, cold towels and newspapers/magazines are provided to First class customers. In Economy class, snacks, packed lunches and dinners are available for purchase. Passengers can have lunch or dinner in the bistro or they can order the bistro meals to be served directly to their seats in all classes.
In addition, for the first time, there are special on-board lifting devices for mobility-impaired passengers on long-distance trains. In every train, there are three places for wheelchair users, and sockets for wheelchair batteries are provided as well. For visually handicapped travelers, tactile elements have been provided, and a separate space is available for guide dogs.
When choosing to travel by railjet, customers will not incur any excess fares or reservation charges. The ticket prices are the same as the rates to be paid for the existing first class or the second class. For an additional charge of € 25 (regardless of the route), travelers can upgrade to Premium class. All services, such as snacks, drinks, newspapers and seat reservation, are then included in this price.
All price reduction schemes and all Eurail Passes are valid on these trains.
