How to Issue

Customers purchasing a Eurail Pass can expect to receive the pass coupon(s), fixed into the Eurail cover as well as the accompanying Eurail Traveler’s Guide and Timetable.

Electronic Issue of the Pass Coupon(s)
Eurail Sales Agents issue Passes electronically using a blank coupon. In the case of a Saver Pass, an additional coupon is issued as control voucher. The exact layout of a printed Pass depends on the issuing system. The exact requirements regarding the layout of a Eurail Pass are communicated separately to the GSA.
Validating a Eurail Pass before use (for open-date passes only)
If your customer has an open-date pass, explain to him/her that a railway official in Europe, such as a clerk at a ticket window or at a Eurail Aid Office, must validate the pass before use. The railway official will fill in the first and last day of validity, stamp the box “Stamp Validating Office” and enter the passport number.
Please note that the first day of validity may not be later than 6 months from the date of issue. The date of issue can be found on the top right corner of a Pass (Issuing Stamp) or at the bottom line of the pass (in case of RCT2 lay-out).
Accompanying Documentation
Each traveler buying a Eurail Pass must receive a Eurail Traveler’s Guide, Eurail Map and a Eurail Timetable. These documents form an integral part of the Eurail Pass and must be handed out free of charge with every Eurail Pass.

Eurail Traveler’s Guides are published in the following languages: English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Korean, Japanese and Chinese (traditional). The Timetable and map are published in one version only. All materials are issued annually in January.
Features of a Eurail Pass
The following elements are printed on the Pass:
  • date stamp or imprint of the issuing office
  • gender (Mr. or Mrs.)
  • Surname and first initial or full first name (as it appears in the passport )
  • country of residence
  • passport number *
  • first and last day of validity *
  • date stamp of validating office *
    * These items may be entered after arrival in Europe. In this case the pass is issued open-date and a a railway official in Europe must validate the pass ready for travel. (see below)
Eurail Pass cover
Eurail Passes must always be stapled into a Eurail Pass cover. There are two versions of this cover: an ‘East’ version in Korean, Japanese, Traditional Chinese and English and a ‘West’ version in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese.
In the case of a Saver Pass, both the actual ticket and the control voucher are stapled into the Eurail Pass cover. A Eurail travel report is part of the Pass Cover. When clients fill in this travel report and return it to Eurail they will receive a souvenir.
